Pastor's Weekly Message

"Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed..."  Genesis 17:17

The laughter of desperation I suppose.  Part of one of the grandest stories in all of scripture, as Abraham (at 100) and Sarah (at 90) are to give birth to Isaac (laughter).  Sometimes we just have to laugh.

Looking at one of our sun flowers the other morning.  It had grown to a magnificent 10 feet with a rather smallish head.  This morning there was no head to be seen, and then I saw it on the ground at the base of the stalk.  It had just snapped off.  It made me grin though, this tall green stalk with no flower was rather silly looking. Some grand metaphor to be found?  The grin was enough.

At the risk of no laughter then, let me also share this from a calendar in my office.  World History Teacher: "What did Martin Luther nail to the door of the Catholic Church that protested against the selling of indulgences?"  9th grade student: "Was it Jesus?"

Or how about a couple of actual definitions used in actual medical reports?  Therapeutic misadventure - medical malpractice, or hematophagous arthropod vectors - fleas, or aggravated bovine ejection - being bucked off by a bull.

Badumpbump.

Thanks for the laughter Lord,
Pastor Randy

A prayer from Robert Louis Stevenson, "The day returns and brings us the petty sound of irritating concerns and duties.  Help us to perform them with laughter and kind faces.  Let cheerfulness abound with industry.  Give us to go happily on our business all this day, bring us to our beds weary and content and undishonoured, and grant us in the end the gift of sleep; for Jesus Christ's sake."
