Administrative and Communications Coordinator
Oregon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

This is a key position with a broad set of responsibilities touching on multiple aspects of the operations of the Oregon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The administrative and communications coordinator will play a vital support role on a highly interdependent team of the Bishop and four staff members that serves our congregations throughout the state. This position acts as the first point of contact with the general public and member congregations.  As key communicator for the Oregon Synod, the ability to exercise judgment and assessment of need for all incoming and outgoing communication is essential, as is a welcoming, positive, professional demeanor.  Project support and workflow coordination across many areas are important responsibilities for this position where program staff often work remotely. The coordinator's knowledge and experience supporting the broad range of initiatives will both anchor and advance the important and varied work of the Synod.
 
This is a .8 FTE position.Work Week: Tuesday – Friday 8:30 – 5:00, with occasional special event responsibilities at other times, including weekend and evenings.

Salary to start: $25,000 with six month review.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
 
Provides administrative support for the Executive Assistant to the Bishop and Development, Endowment, and Mission Directors on projects, including meeting notes, mission campaign support, drafting documents, and grant development, tracking, and reporting.
 
As key communicator for the synod, writes copy for and coordinates production and distribution/posting of electronic communications, including a synod newsletter, updates to the synod website, and social media.  Strategic emphasis on communications with and for youth, youth leaders, and programs that give voice to young people in building the future of the church.  Also includes interface with the ELCA Churchwide Office.
 
Acts as first point of contact with general public with a strong emphasis on welcome and a culture of hospitality.
Manages calendars, performs routine data entry and management of multiple data bases.
Supports special event and meeting planning and execution.
Maintains existing systems for knowledge storage and retrieval.
Works collaboratively with staff to develop and utilize a broad network of resource people and organizations, including the recruitment and care for volunteers and external partners for ongoing and new projects.
Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
 
Bachelor's degree or combination of relevant education and related work experience.
Excellent communications skills, including spoken and written, with highly developed editing and proofing skills.
Skilled in working effectively and congenially with volunteers.
Demonstrated competencies in database management, document generation, and time management skills.
Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software applications as required.
Experience with event planning and execution.
Experience with direct service and/or volunteer coordination.
