Pastor's Wednesday Message

Dear Followers of Jesus,

All my life I've wondered, if faced with an emergency situation, whether I would be able to step up and risk my self for the sake of someone else's life or well being. Last Friday, three men stepped forward on a Max train to protect the lives of two women who were being threatened by an armed man. Two of the three were killed by the attacker and one was seriously wounded.
Three weeks ago my wife and I put up a sign next to the street in front of our house. The sign expresses our beliefs and values concerning equality and human rights. That sign has been vandalized twice. I assume that whoever has vandalized the sign disagrees with our statement and is trying to discourage, if not intimidate, us from displaying it.
Daily, in various ways, each one of us is called upon to follow Jesus. Normally we do that in ways that seem ordinary and non-threatening. Once in a while we find our life in Christ opposed by individuals or groups who make us feel at risk in some way. Rarely, we must put ourselves in harm's way if we wish to follow Jesus.
It's called the way of the cross. Jesus went that way, into and through death, and into life. The Spirit calls us, strengthens us, and gives us courage, so that we may follow Jesus on the way of the cross, every day.

In the Peace of Jesus,          Pastor Tom
