Pastor's Wednesday Message

Dear friends in Christ,

I was at a cluster pastor's meeting recently when the pastor of one of our neighboring ELCA churches mentioned that they were thinking of joining "MACG". I mentioned that my home church, King of Kings in Milwaukie, is already a member. What is MACG?

Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good. Here is an explanation from their website:

Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good (MACG) is a group of nonpartisan, proactive, everyday citizens dedicated to making the Portland Metro Area a better place for all to live and thrive.  You'll find us working for change in churches and classrooms, in living rooms and union halls, in City Hall and in Salem.

Health Care Group

For more than 10 years, MACG has worked to make neighborhoods safer, promote accessible and affordable health care, and increase job opportunities among other issues.

We are a non-profit supported by the dues of our member organizations, individuals and foundations.  We are affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation, a coalition of like-minded organizations in cities across the United States, the UK, Germany, Canada and Australia.

At MACG, we believe that by working together we have the power to change our communities for the better.  We do more than just sign petitions and protest.  We take action.

Should Shepherd of the Valley join MACG? That might be something to think about and talk about.            Pastor Tom
