Pastor's Weekly Message

Dear Friends in Christ,

This coming Sunday marks the third Sunday in Advent, a day traditionally known as "Rejoice Sunday."  The reading from First Thessalonians begins, "Rejoice always" (I Thessalonians 5:16-24), and Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11) and the psalmist (Psalm 126) make clear that God is turning our mourning into laughter and shouts of joy.  Watch and wait, prepare and rejoice, for the Lord, the light of the world (John 1:6-8, 19-28), is coming very soon!

Prayer of the Day

Stir up the wills of your faithful people, Lord God, and open our ears to the words of your prophets, that, anointed by your Spirit, we may testify to your light; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen

You are invited to join us for Advent soup suppers and worship tonight and next Wednesday, December 17.  Dinner will be served at 5:45 pm, and worship will follow at 6:30 pm.

In our Prayers:

SOV's Call Committee—prayers for wisdom and guidance, as they review resumes and prepare for a new round of interviews;

SOV's next pastor (God knows who this is!)—prayers for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as he or she discerns God's call;

Prayers for safety and wisdom for all who serve in the military;

Prayers for strength and guidance for all who are caring for loved ones;

Prayers of comfort and encourage for all who are seeking employment.
