Dear Friends in Christ,
On Ash Wednesday we began our journey toward baptismal immersion in the death and resurrection of Christ. This year the Sundays in Lent lead us to focus on five covenants God makes in the Hebrew Scriptures and to use them as lenses through which to view baptism. This coming Sunday we will hear the conclusion of the story of Noah and the great flood (Genesis 9:8-17). Just as God saved Noah's family in the flood, so God saves us through the water of baptism. In our gospel lesson, we hear the story of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness (Mark 1:9-15). The same Spirit that sustained Jesus when he was tested by Satan also sustains us in our times of trial.
Prayer of the Day
Holy God, heavenly Father, in the waters of the flood you saved the chosen, and in the wilderness of temptation you protected your Son from sin. Renew us in the gift of baptism. May your holy angels be with us, that the wicked foe may have no power over us, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
A message from your Call Committee:
The vote is in:
On Sunday, February 22nd, the congregation voted 82 in favor with 3 nay votes to extend a Call to Pastor Randall Schutt to become the pastor of Shepherd of the Valley.
Pastor Schutt has thirty days upon receipt of the paperwork from the Oregon ELCA Synod to accept or reject the call.
While we have no reason to believe Pastor Schutt will not accept the call we would request that you continue to pray for Pastor Schutt and wife Choice as they make their decision.
