"....for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." Matthew 5:45
That was certainly the case today. Everybody got it pretty much the same after a wild windy night. Started off the drive this morning from Albany in darkness and a pelting rain. By the time SOV was in sight there were patches of dry pavement, blue sky and a warming sunshine. But that all changed quickly enough. The sun was still shining when the first heavy rain came, accompanied by some hail. And so the rest of the morning and afternoon went.
There were downpours, enough hail to cover the ground, and more sunshine and the accompanying blue sky. In some ways it was a microcosm of life itself, it seemed to me.
There are moments of beauty as well as moments that make it difficult to see the beauty, and there are even those moments that threaten life itself. With the weather today it was impossible, and unwise, to get settled, because it would all probably change in a moment. Such is life. Sometimes it is unwise to get too settled. Sometimes it is also best to take the moment for what it is, literally. Enjoy the moments, expect the changes, but don't let the changes steal from the beauty of the moment.
Know the truth of that, but living it out is not an easy thing, but remembering as well, that we are all in it together. Bless and strengthen the whole mess of us Lord.
In the peace and power of the cross,
"Holy God, your word feeds your people with life that is eternal. Direct our choices and preserve us in your truth, that we may live in you, and you in us, through your Son, Jesus Christ, in who's name we pray. Amen."
