"As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment." I Timothy 6:17
Outside again, wondering around Rood Bridge Park. Walk there often and have been watching the effect of the summer without rain on the Tualatin River, and especially the big pond in the park. When I first road my bike there in the beginning of June I couldn't even go through the whole park because some of the paths were flooded. Now there is one little pool that has been long cut off from the big pond, and as I looked at it the other day I was amazed. There were the usual number of frogs jumping into the water, and I planned on waiting quietly for them to return. It is a kick to watch their heads begin to pop up again.
But this time there was an added dimension. The ever shrinking pool was alive with tad poles. I am not the only one to have taken note as I saw heron and raccoon tracks all around the edge. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of little creatures flitting around in the water. It was extravagant, as nature often needs to be, so that at least some will survive. It may sound cruel, but it is just reality.
The extravagance of the Creator. The richness of the creation. A God who makes life rich for us to take in. It may sometimes be so overwhelming that we can scarcely take it in. And so God also comes to us with His love. May we be wise enough to trust in the riches the Creator provides for us, and not depend solely on our own doing.
As one richly blessed, in Christ,
"Lord, thank you again for the richness of this life, for the blessings you have given us, for the chance to take at least a part of it in. May we be strengthened by your presence in all ways. Amen."
