"From this time forward I make you hear new things, hidden things that you have not known." Isaiah 48:6b
I don't know how many times I walked up and down the front steps on Monday. Out to the car and back, to the mail box, on and on. Even stopped to water the plants, in particular the hanging plant right by the front door. It wasn't until late afternoon that I noticed what appeared to be a clump of leaves in that hanging plant. Except, upon closer inspection, I noticed that this clump of leaves had pointy ears. Indeed a little bat friend was roosting in this oddly obvious spot, nearly unnoticed.
There are always surprises, even if we try to pay attention. Even if we do something over and over again. So, read that piece of scripture again. Offer that prayer again. Because maybe there is something new this time. Maybe something was missed before. Maybe the perspective will be a little different. In truth, with God's creative hand, there is always something new to take in, no matter how old it may seem, or how many times we have walked past it.
Still trying to pay attention, in Christ,
"Lord, we give you thanks for the richness of this world. Strengthen and guide us to be a part of that richness for the lives around us. Help us to be boldly attentive in your name. Amen."
