Pastor's Weekly Message

"The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork." Psalm 19:1

It was a pretty rich day all in all, and while there were a great many memorable moments, a couple of them stand out as work of the Creator's hand.  It is about surprise, and this is a season that reminds us all the more about the surprise of God.  A baby Messiah?

Sitting in my office, catching up on myriad messages, pre-occupied, but then taking note of a constant noise.  Rolled to the window and looked down to the park and saw the reason for the distraction.  Literally hundreds of geese landing, taking off, tramping around, constant movement and all the while their chorus dwarfing the traffic on Cornell.  "The heavens telling the glory of God."  Beautiful.

Went home for lunch.  foolish to drive the distance I suppose, but it just feels good to go "home" for lunch.  Stepping out back to see what birds might be at the feeder.  Froze while stepping out the door upon seeing a deer standing just below me.  Watched quietly for a bit and then suddenly noticed movement to my right, a youngster with dark tufts moves down to see mom, and yet another deer moves out from behind the neighbors house.  My heart thumped as I watched mom deftly leap over the fence and the trio wandered to the creek, and off.  "The firmament proclaims his handiwork"

The days are rich even without the surprises.  May we see God at work in it all.

Blessed Advent, in the peace and power of the Christ,
Pastor Randy

"Lord, open our hearts to help and serve others, to be bold witnesses to your redeeming grace and to care for people who suffer in body or spirit.  Strengthen us so that through our actions and in our words, the people we encounter will see you in us.  In Jesus name, Amen."
