Wanting desperately to find mention of the heron in scripture because I am enthralled by their clumsy, statuesque, homely, beauty. And here it is, except this is part of a list of birds that are not to be eaten (also contained in Deuteronomy 14). Alright, so maybe that much can be agreed upon, no heron eating here.
Still, loving these creatures, and their witness to the wondrous beauty of creation. I keep bringing that up, not only because of seeing them in the park near our house, but because of how they keep appearing. Saw one drifting along Cornell just before turning into the church parking lot this evening. Have seen one at least three times in the past week at the empty lot at the corner of 185th and Walker. Another of the Creator's surprises I suppose. What a place to see such beauty. Pay attention and have a chance to take it in.
Give thanks for the grand adventure,
Lord, in the midst of sorrows and wanderings, please remind us again and again of your presence. May we be lifted by moments of grace and beauty so that our weariness would be restored with light and hope. In Christ. Amen.
