Primarily a reminder today, and an invitation, to the meal we share this coming Sunday evening. It is a time of celebration and thanksgiving for the gift present in the life of the community of faith known as Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. That is Sunday, April 29th at 5:30pm. (If you cannot be here please remember the time in your thoughts and prayers.)
Thanks to all the folks who gave in many ways to enrich our lives of faith. Thanks and farewell (though I trust we will see you around) to Kevin Cope for his ministry, which in truth will remain with us in many ways.
With that in mind allow me to share quotes church historian Martin Marty used when ceasing publication of Context (which I subscribed to for some 28 years). These quotes are not meant to be somber so just bask in the beauty of the wishes offered. First from Henri Fredric Amiel (a 19th century philosopher), "Life is short and we have not much time for gladdening the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Oh, be swift to love! Make haste to be kind!" And also from Cardinal John Henry Newman, "May He support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in His mercy may He give us a safe lodging, and a holy rest and peace at the last." Amen.
Rejoice in the gifts,
