Pastor's Weekly Message

"But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever flowing stream." Amos 5:2

As I write this I think of those words, and then of a speech that was given on this date (August 28th) 50 years ago. That is quite a passage of time, for the speech of course, and then tag on a couple thousand more years for the words of the prophet.

The desire for justice and righteousness has been there for so long, and sometimes it seems just as far away now as it has ever been. Things look to be a mess. There are so many judgments. There is such a vast chasm between races and nations. Maybe I am overstating the case, but if the news is to be believed, I do not think that I am.

Can we then still hang on to the word of God spoken by Micah? We must, because in them is borne the promise of hope. In spite of the things that seem to go in the opposite direction of justice we cannot afford to cast that hope aside.

May God work justice and righteousness through us.

In the peace and power of the cross,
Pastor Randy

"Gracious God, you desire to fill us with good things, to share your abundant life with us, to pour out your Spirit upon us. You give us the gift of your presence. You lavishly grace us with your mercy and forgiveness. Your word speaks to us of your purposes and your will. Your prophets old and new proclaim your message of love and healing. Despite our turning aside, lour busyness, our distractions, you never stop inviting us to listen. Thank you for patience and for your love that is everlasting. Amen."
