Pastor's Weekly Message

"This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."  Luke 22:19

This week is big on remembrance, and deservedly so.  Yesterday was the 150th anniversary of the delivery of the Gettysburg address, a mere 272 words that have been recalled time and again, and are still good for us to remember.  Later this week is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John Kennedy, a powerful moment in our national memory as well, and one of those times we may be able to say, "I remember where I was when ....".

Remembrance is so important to us, as the words of Jesus attest to.  Remember the past, not living there, but being continually informed by it, can be powerful stuff.

Thinking of the same word, but in a slightly different direction, consider these words of Frederick Buechner, "When you remember me, it means that you have carried something of who I am with you, that I have left some mark of who I am on who you are.  It means that you can summon me back to your mind even though countless years and miles may stand between us, ..... It means that even after I die, you can still see my face and hear my voice and speak to me in your heart.  For as long as your remember me, I am never entirely lost ......"

Riches of sorrow and joy, filled with meaning, or fleeting moments, remember.

In Christ,
Pastor Randy

"Holy God and author of our hope, thank you for the assurance of your presence and grace.  We pour out before you our concerns for our world.  We are overwhelmed by the needs and sometimes we feel helpless.  Speak to us, we pray, in the midst of our brokenness.  We long for healing, we cling to hope in you, and we ask for courage to respond as disciples of Jesus Christ to a hurting world around us.  Amen."
