Pastor's Weekly Message

"But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart." Luke 2:19

Just used those from Luke in the most recent SOV newsletter, and I must use them again because they still speak much to where I am, the whole pondering part anyway.

Yesterday I took down the outside Christmas lights at home. That always leaves me a little blue, and ready to wax a bit nostalgically. Those lights are hung with such anticipation. Wondering what Christmas will bring this year. Wondering how the Spirit of Christmas will become manifest this time around. The story we base all the excitement around is always the same, but how it will be told and unfold is not. And there comes the pondering.

The times of worship this year held a grand richness. The onslaught of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fairly flew by. There were many new faces, many that I may never see again, and I do not focus on the odds of any of them coming back, but on the fact that they were here at all. And for that I am thankful.

Thinking as well of those two Sunday's after Christmas and the little ones who were baptized. What a blessing to hold little Nathan and Valorie. What a perfect compliment to the nativity.

There is so much, an astounding richness, and while my outside lights are put away, and the sanctuary looks almost bare now, there is still the chance to ponder. What do you recall?

In the peace and power of the Word made flesh,
Pastor Randy

"God of all creation, you are all around, ever-present and yet we don't see you. We pray that we will recognize you today, tomorrow, the rest of the week and the rest of our lives. Open our eyes that we may see. Thank you for always being near. Amen."
