Last Detroit update; Attack of the Mosquitos

I can't believe this is our last update. This week has flown by and been filled with amazing experiences and memories we will not soon forget.

Yesterday we boarded the bus and headed out to our service project, cleaning up a 100 square block area of Detroit's west side. We cleared abandoned houses, backyards full of mattresses and garbage, garages, and much more. Our kids jumped in and worked HARD, never complained and truly demonstrated team work. We were able to talk to some locals in the neighborhood that were so grateful that we were there and helping their city. The local news wrote about it if you want to read more http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2015/07/16/detroit-blight-removal-project/30232985/

After getting back into downtown we had dinner at a local pub, where our server told us that our presence in the city and influx in business made it possible for him to get ahead and pay his bills for the first time in months. We love hearing from locals that they appreciate us being here and that we are truly making a difference.

We ended the night at Ford Field with speakers Rozella White and Marian Wright Edelman who spoke messages that resonated deeply with our kids. We also were treated to a concert from Skillet, a new favorite band for us!

This morning we went to worship at Ford Filed where service was lead by Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, if only we could worship every Sunday in a room with 30,000 of our friends!!

We want to thank you all again for your support and prayers that got us here. It has been an experience that we are so grateful for and have memories that will last a lifetime.

Now for Houston 2018!!!
