Pastor's Wednesday Message

Sometimes I get phone calls from people wanting me to take a survey.  I always refuse.  I'm never sure who's asking the questions and what they're going to do with the information they get out of me.  But sometimes surveys are good and useful.  I want to recommend one to you.  Here's the scoop. Yesterday the Transition Task Force sent out an email to the SOV list with a link to a congregational questionnaire.  It's mostly about the tasks and skills desired in the new pastor.  I earnestly hope you'll click the link and take the survey.

There are three main sections.  The first asks you to rate statements that describe SOV.  The second asks about the relative importance of certain ministry tasks ordained pastors typically carry out.  The third asks what importance you attach to various typical skills for ordained ministers .These are important questions.  They closely follow similar sets of questions in the Ministry Site Profile (MSP).  That document will represent SOV to pastoral candidates and to synod officials who will pick the slate of candidates for our Call Committee to interview.  Your answers to these questions will be very helpful for Transition Task Force members drafting the MSP.  Your answers here will largely determine how these key sections appear in the final draft of the MSP.

When I'm participating in call processes with other congregations, these sections are among the first I look at when I'm trying to decide whether I want to interview with them.  If I like what I see in these three sections, then I look more closely at the rest of the document.  For me, these sections provide a quick summary that tells a great deal about a congregation.

So, these questions are really important.  I hope you will look at the questions, thoughtfully consider, then give your best answers.  Your partnership in this questionnaire will be a huge help for the Call

Committee in finding the pastor that SOV really wants and needs.

And that's a good thing, right?  So click the link and have at it!

Packed with Love – managed by Love Inc. Beaverton needs our support to help reach the goal of providing school supplies to 1,000 local middle and high school children.

The Social Concerns Committee will be sending a group of pre-registered committee members on August 8th to directly REACH OUT and help with the back pack assembly and pick-up event at Aloha High School.

We are asking you to REACH IN and consider donating money to help us collect funds.  Your contribution will help purchase needed items, and will also help offset the newly required $5 per child receiving a back pack registration fee.

JULY is the month to collect money as by early August it's go time!!!

Make checks to SOV, and in the memo line put "Packed with Love"  Social Concerns.

We all REACH UP with prayers of thanks!
